Process and Critique- Performance

Well guys, my plan was to wow and amaze you with epic hula hooping skills.

But that died.

Lets take it from the top, I was inspired to do this by a childhood memory of going to the Barnum and Bailey's Circus that happened a very long time ago. I had caught the eye of the lead clown, and she pulled me in front of a bunch of people and we hula'd multiple hoops together. It was hilarious and awesome, and when I thought performance, my mind clicked back to that moment. So I head off to walmart to purchase as many hula hoops as I could get, which was 5, how sad. I practiced and was able to hula for about 2 hours at a time. This attracted alot of people in the dorm I live in to come watch and hula with me, and I didn't feel uncomfortable whatsoever. Until the day arrived for me to do this...

Just like speech giving, I freeze up badly, and that is exactly what my body decided to do this Friday. It was pretty upsetting knowing I can do this for very long periods of time without a problem and fail at doing it for 60 seconds.

So for my critiques, it was mentioned that people wanted to help me out as they watched me. Then the conversation spiraled downward into how I had tricked people into thinking I'd be like crazy awesome with my sparkley fantastic water filled hula hoops, and I crushed their hopes.

...
Damn.

At least my ending was well received.
And that's about it. :|

Process Write Up- Uncomfortable

So in the beginning, I was having a lovely dinner with my parents and boyfriend at Rockfish, a nice little place in the middle of The Woodlands mall. While contemplating what I should do for my video, inspiration slapped me in the face. I exclaim in the resturant, I need to shout penis in public. My wonderful family was actually thrilled I was going to do this, and my mother was eager to tape it. So I run out to touch the pole, look around make sure there were no cops that could end this too soon, and make sure there weren't that many children. Then it began, the shouting of penis, I totally made my family proud. I almost felt bad to yell penis in front of the old lady, but... I didn't feel bad enough to stop. :] You can't see in this that there were about 30 people all starring at me awkwardly, I think I accomplished this mission.

This is art people. Enjoy.

Process Write Up- Monologue

So originally I was going to talk for 60 seconds about my recent traumatic car accident. But I had a serious issue being serious. So while I attempted to get my act together in the bathroom, already being in a ridiculous mood I stumble upon what seemed to be incredibly random objects. This attracted Rachel to talk about this wonderful find. So here, this video was born.

Human Composition Critique

For our fourth part of the first project, our group had a blast coating ourselves in flour and chocolate and going wild in an unfinished building. The outcome of these photos had a few things that could have made this project run and look cleaner.

For instance, during the critique somebody mentioned we could have used tape on us to form perfect squares and then fill in the middle with icing. This could have easily been implemented and would have saved us a great deal of time trying to perfect icing boxes with plastic knives.

Also, the building we worked in didn't have lighting in it quite yet so the backgrounds of the pictures are much darker than they should have been. We did a fabulous job becoming white, but without the background being just as white looking we stuck out a litte too much.

These are a few things that could've improved our outcomes and made life a little easier!

Brainstorming List

So before we could jump into the fourth part of our first project, we needed to compile a list of methods and crazy ideas of how we could demonstrate positive and negative space.

The names of our group members are...
Bryttani, Paige, Carlee, Rachel, and P.J.

White Space:
-Use furniture covers
-Cover ourselves with flour
-Cover ourselves with powered sugar and use chocolate icing for black space
-Bright street light at night
-Put white tape on outside of phones
-White jeans with a black square pocket
-White building and use windows as black
-Paint fingers white with paint or finger nail polish
-Black top tables with a white floor and shoot from above
-White screen and we will be pixels on the screen

Composition:
-Wear boxes for the squares
-Use our fingers
-Face squares with square objects
-Body squares
-Use the paper bag grocery bags over our heads
-Gravestones
-Traffic signs
-Side of a builing with windows
-Square cakes or cupcakes
-Cut out square shapes and hold where ever we need them

Texture Wall Piece

Here we have my texture wall piece, also the third part of our first project.

As we went around the room critiquing these pieces, some of the comments that I received include that it was refreshing to look at something that every aspect about the work was taken into 3D. The squares that were cut from paper and formed into cubes from cutting and bending them turned out quite square! This reminded people of the jet stream of a car, which is funny as it started out like a salt shaker. The crinkles moving in different directions helped the piece, it gave it extra movement or continuance. The only issues that I encountered were that the way the squares connected to the newspaper looked unclean. But besides the neatness factor, everything else seemed to be accepted positively.
